Long Days Journey Into Night 3D 2018 follows Luo Hongwu, a man who returns to his hometown of Kaili after his father dies. He searches for a woman named Wan Qiwen who has haunted his memory for years. The first half is a noir drama about Luo tracking the girl from his dreams through fragmented memories and encounters. The film shifts into a single unbroken hour-long take filmed in 3D showing Luo descending into a ruined cinema and emerging into a surreal night world. He travels through tunnels follows a child on rollerskates and enters a mining town where past and present blur. Directed by Bi Gan this film was specifically created for theatrical presentation. The second half presents a visually striking journey through a dreamscape where Luo finally faces the woman he has been seeking.
