In the film Pokémon Detective Pikachu 3D 2019, Tim Goodman travels to Rime City to settle the affairs of his missing father, detective Harry Goodman. There, he meets Harry's amnesiac Pokémon partner, a talking Pikachu that only Tim can understand. They team up to investigate Harry's disappearance, uncovering a conspiracy involving a mysterious purple gas called R that makes Pokémon enraged. Their investigation leads them to a powerful genetic experiment by the CEO of a major corporation, who plans to merge with the legendary Pokémon Mewtwo, threatening the existence of both species and revealing the shocking truth about Pikachu's identity.
