In the film The Finest Hours 3D 2016, the SS Pendleton oil tanker splits in two during a historic nor'easter in 1952. Engineer Ray Sybert must keep the sinking stern section afloat and its terrified crew alive. Concurrently, Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber and three volunteers defy orders and launch a small wooden lifeboat into the monstrous, wave-tossed sea. With a failing engine and no navigation, they brave the heart of the storm to find the lost shipwreck and attempt an impossible rescue against overwhelming odds, forging a legend of bravery.
